Paintball Tech: Cronus with rapid fire issue / won’t stay cocked.

As with any Tippmann and in fact any paintball gun, make sure the marker is properly cleaned and oiled.  This solves many problems.  Having said that, when a marker won’t stay cocked the first things to look at are the sear, bolt, and bolt oring.

The sear and bolt connect together to hold the bolt in the back position.  If one of these is damaged or worn then they won’t connect correctly and the bolt can free cycle back and forth.  If you have to replace one then you should probably replace the other at the same time.

The bolt / hammer oring is what seals between the bolt and the body of the gun.  You need a good seal here so the excess air from the firing sequence can blow back the bolt to the back position to catch on the sear.   If that oring is worn, broken, missing, etc then the air will escape around it and not give sufficient force to get the bolt back.  If the oring is dry or swollen then it might be creating too much drag to allow the bolt to freely move back far enough.

So, rapid fire / won’t stay cocked: Check your rear bolt, sear, and rear bolt oring.

STILL having a problem?  Check your velocity.  On the first shot, do you get a good normal velocity shot off or is it low?  If your gun is rapid firing AND your velocity on that first shot is low then you could have a cracked power tube.  A cracked tube is similar to a bad rear bolt oring in that the air is escaping around to the wrong place rather than forcing the bolt back.  A cracked tube will also cause low velocity as air going forward also escapes out the crack.

Symptom: rapid fire

1. Clean / Oil – check

2. Examine rear bolt and sear and power tube.  Replace worn or cracked items and replace the rear bolt oring.

Can I put the new style A5 grip with selector switch on my older A-5?

Absolutely!  The A5 went through a design change awhile ago.  This is the newer grip with a selector switch safety.  This newer A5 is referred to as the 2011 A5.  So, Yes.   The A5 2011 Mechanical grip shown below is backwards compatible with the pre 2011 A5 markers.  This exact grip shown will also accept the response trigger kits but it will NOT accept the electronic boards.  This grip is the mechanical version and does not have the battery compartment built in.

New Tippmann Crossover XVR Colors – Blue and Bronze

Tippmann has just released some new colors of the popular Crossover XVR marker.  They’re going to be a limited edition run so when they’re gone they’re gone.  This is a great chance to upgrade to the top of the line Tippmann marker and get one that’ll be unique on the field too.  The two new colors are Blue and Bronze.  The color will be on the body, barrel and ASA with the grips and other accents colored black.  This makes for a nicely balanced 2 tone paintball gun.

New Bronze and Blue Colors of the Tippmann Crossover XVR Paintball Marker

We should have both colors arriving at our TippmannParts warehouse this week or early next so we’re starting to take pre-orders for the new XVRs now.

Two of the old colors are being discontinued.  The Red and Titanium are officially sold out from Tippmann.  At the time of this post we have only 1 left of each of those colors so if you had your heart set on one of them then now’s the time to pull that trigger.

Can You Put a Response Trigger (RT) Kit on a Phenom?

NopeNopeNope.  The Tippmann Response Trigger (RT) Kit for X7‘s is designed for the original X7’s with blowback style operation.  The newer X7 Phenom, sometimes just referred to as the Phenom, has a completely different type of valve system that is not compatible with how the RT kits work.  If you want to upgrade your mechanical Phenom trigger you can convert it to electronic with an E-Grip kit.

Ninja Paintball Tank Gauge Sizes – What’s the difference between Mini and Micro?

There’s been a little confusion on the size of the Ninja gauges so here’s a quick  rundown.

The Ninja Micro gauge is the traditional small sized gauge that has been around for years.   The face AND body/rim of the gauge has about the exact same diameter as a quarter.  Not larger than a quarter.  Almost the exact same size.

The Ninja Paintball MINI gauge on the other hand is the newer super small size.  I personally would think Micro is smaller than Mini but as the name Micro has been around for a long time this new gauge is called the Mini.  The Ninja Mini gauge face and body/rim is almost exactly the size of a penny.  We’ll try to get a video or picture up here soon to better illustrate.

Micro = Quarter – Traditional small size.

Mini = Penny – New super small size.

Hope this helps!

What is the Tacamo Handguard Adapter?

Handguard Adapter [Alpha Black, Bravo One, Project Salvo, Sierra One]

Many web searchers have found this paintball mod and wondered what it was for.   The Tacamo Handguard Adapter will attach to any paintball gun that uses model 98 barrel threads and allow the gun to use the shroud from the US Army Alpha Black.   This device was originally made for the Tacamo Magazine feed kit.   Since the magazine kit is the same for the Alpha Black and the Tippmann 98 Custom, this block needed to be added to the Alpha Black version of the kit so the front shroud would still work.   An added bonus of the adapter is that it has a small section of 1″ rail on the top for mounting gear.
